FoodForward
Driving innovation at Arla Innovation Centre.
Business challenge
Beyond the walls of the research labs.
Arla Innovation Centre is a global leader in food innovation, but its vast range of activities lacked a structured way to communicate their collective impact. While new product launches often received attention, the intricate research, technological advancements, and sustainability efforts that fueled these innovations remained largely unseen by key stakeholders.
Without a central narrative to connect these initiatives, there was a risk that Arla’s leadership and employees would not fully grasp the scale of the company’s innovation efforts. Additionally, Arla needed a way to ensure that AIC’s work resonated beyond the walls of its research labs – impacting commercial teams, customers, and partners alike.
The challenge was clear:
how could Arla create a compelling, cohesive story around its innovation journey that inspired, engaged, and drove future collaboration within Arla Foods?

Strategic insight
Moving food forward.
Innovation doesn’t exist in isolation. At its core, Arla’s research and development efforts are about moving food forward – ensuring that every new idea, technology, and product development contributes to a better future for consumers, the industry and adding as well to the impact globally.
This realization shaped the foundation of the FoodForward concept. We recognized that Arla’s innovation needed to be positioned as a continuous journey – one that thrives on collaboration and builds on past successes to push boundaries further.
The key was to create a framework that could serve multiple purposes: a unifying story for internal teams, an engagement tool for leadership, and an external showcase of Arla’s commitment to shaping the future of food.
FoodForward emerged as the perfect articulation of this ambition. The name itself conveyed momentum, progress, and purpose. It signified not just innovation for innovation’s sake, but innovation with intent – driving Arla and the food industry toward better, smarter, and more sustainable solutions.

Building FoodForward required close collaboration between Arla’s innovation teams and our creative strategists. We worked closely with category teams to ensure the concept aligned with the company’s strategic priorities while also crafting a compelling narrative that resonated across all levels of the category organization.
It became the overarching narrative for how AIC’s work was presented, ensuring that every new breakthrough and development was framed within a bigger, more compelling story.
The first major rollout of FoodForward took place as part of a high profile leadership engagement event. Here, Arla’s top decision makers were invited to step into the world of innovation, experiencing firsthand how the company’s research and development efforts were shaping the future of food.
The event featured interactive installations, storytelling elements, and live demonstrations – bringing FoodForward to life in a way that left a lasting impression.
The result

The impact of FoodForward was immediate and powerful. The concept not only clarified and structured Arla’s innovation narrative but also created a sense of excitement and engagement around the work being done at AIC.
Leadership gained a clearer understanding of the company’s innovation priorities, employees felt more connected to Arla’s long-term vision, and external stakeholders saw firsthand how Arla was pushing the boundaries of food innovation.
